Quick tips in 30 seconds
Right after creating your character
Don't rush into the story. Five minutes in the settings can save you hours:
- Teleport and cameraEsc → Settings → Graphics: set the teleport effect color to “Dark” and turn off camera shake in combat. A white flash at every teleport gets tiring fast.
- SprintKey Settings → General. This is not just running: it is also a dash with brief invulnerability. Bind it to an easy key; it can save your life in combat.
- FlightKey Settings → Flight Controls: bind ascent and descent. You'll be flying all the time.
- MacroKey Settings → General → Macro. It is unbound by default! Most players bind it to the right mouse button.
For a full breakdown of useful options, see the AION 2 Settings guide.
What unlocks as you level

Level 4: skills and macros
The Skills window unlocks. You spend points on skills, and once a skill is leveled enough, it gains specialties. Important: you must drag each specialty into a slot yourself; it does not activate automatically. Many new players go a week without using them.
Macros unlock here too. Here's how they work:
- Each row of skills on the bar is one macro “button.”
- While you hold your assigned macro key, it presses the selected rows in sequence.
- This lets one mouse button use 5–7 skills.
A clean macro
- 1–2 rows, with 5–6 skills in each
- Self-buffs on separate keys, used manually
- Dashes on separate keys
- Charged (hold-to-cast) skills on separate keys too
Ready-made macros for each class are in the Skill Macros guide and our class guides.
Level 13: Daevanion
Daevanion boards are your main source of power. Start by heading for the yellow nodes in the board's corners; the game suggests the route. Once you know which skills and passives your class needs, plan your own path. You can map it out in advance with our Daevanion planner.
On the board, active skills can be strengthened with repeated nodes. In Global, each active skill appears on the board only once, so first take the available nodes for skills your class needs. Skills above level 10 also increase your Daevanion points; check the threshold in the skill window before unlocking the next specialty.
Level 16: Monolith and feathers
Feathers are scattered across the maps. Turn them in at the Monolith in the main city: it grants useful stats and keys to hidden cubes, which are very valuable in Global. If feathers are missing from the map, toggle the content checkbox in the map filter twice to make them appear again.
You don't need to hunt down every feather, but pick one up if it's along your route. Best of all, only one character needs to collect feathers. Your other characters can select “Sync Empyrean Traces” at the Monolith and receive all the levels at once.
Level 22: Stigmas, Expeditions, and Pantheon
- Stigmas are powerful skills in addition to your core skills. Choose them for your class and equip them right away. See the Stigmas guide.
- Expeditions are group dungeons. If the story asks you to complete one and nobody is around, you can go solo. But don't do it just on principle; it takes a long time. Use the join an ongoing run button without hesitation: a group that started without a fourth or fifth member will be glad to have you. You can also ride mounts in dungeons.
- Odyle Energy starts accumulating from this point, and each character has its own supply.
- Pantheon is where you place ornaments, paintings, and statues. To add a new ornament, right-click it in your bag; it will place itself if a slot is free. To replace one already placed, visit the Pantheon and swap it manually.
Titles, power, and useful tips
Titles can have two different effects: the name displayed above your character and a permanent bonus for earning or developing the title. The permanent bonus is what matters for your stats; you usually don't need to equip the title name. In the Titles window, check that the bonus is unlocked instead of looking only at the title you have equipped.
Power Shards add damage, but are consumed during combat. Use them before a dungeon or a tough fight rather than spending them on ordinary travel across the map. You can set consumables to auto-use: drag an item to the bottom bar and check in the combat settings whether automatic use in combat is enabled.
When gathering resources, watch for enemies near the gathering point. Taking a hit or having the interaction interrupted can use up one of your gathering attempts there. If enemies are nearby, deal with them first or choose a neighboring point.
Fly without wasting your flight time
While flying, alternate a short ascent with Sprint, then fold your wings and glide while Sprint recharges. This lets you dash more often and hold your altitude better than climbing continuously. Watch the flight gauge at the bottom of the screen: it shows your remaining flight time without opening another window.
Flight: make your wings last longer
Your flight time is limited at first, and flying is faster than running. Try this technique:
- Take offSpread your wings and fly up and forward.
- DashUse Sprint.
- Fold your wingsRight after the dash, fold your wings and let your momentum carry you forward.
- RepeatSpread your wings, climb, dash, and fold them again. You barely lose altitude and use flight time much more slowly.
The same technique works well when climbing to a higher spot.
Gear: what to enhance and what to leave alone
Do
- Check your bag for upgrades; gear gives you the biggest power increase
- Equip wings from your bag in the Wings window; they don't equip themselves
- Enhance your belt and amulet to +10, then raise their rank with Substance Morph
- Use basic Manastones in blue gear and medium ones in yellow gear
- Gear from Conquest onward is worth enhancing
Don't
- Don't enhance quest gear; you'll replace it very quickly
- Don't enhance early yellow gear from Exploration
- Don't enhance early gear beyond +10
- Don't put high-quality Manastones or Soulstones in accessories too soon
- Don't dismantle yellow gear, manually or with auto-dismantle
For more on belts, amulets, and every source of item level, see How to Reach 1400 GS. For enhancement and Manastones, see How to Upgrade Gear.
Leveling to 45: what not to spend time on
- World bosses at low levels. Spending an hour at level 20 on attempts with constant deaths is a waste. Reach 45 first, then take on bosses.
- Rewards in Exploration. If you're running a dungeon to help friends or learn it, don't open the cube; you'll need the energy more after level 45.
- Green quests in the latest zones first. When you start clearing side quests, begin in the latest regions; their rewards are better.
The route to 45 is covered in detail in the Leveling 1–45 guide.
At 45: your first endgame steps
- A proper macroYou have all your skills now. Rework your macro for your class and tidy up what you put together while leveling.
- Finish the storyThe end of the main story rewards a yellow weapon that should last until roughly 1500–1700 item level.
- Set consumables to auto-useBuy scrolls, Power Shards, food, and potions from the goods merchant. Drag a slot down; a yellow bar will appear above it to show auto-use is on. Enable it in the combat settings so it works in combat.
- Daeva PassCheck the subscription menu: Daeva Passes can have reward tracks that cost Kinah.
- Spy questsSome green quests take place in enemy territory. Accept them before heading through a Rift so you can complete them there.
- Don't let your energy capHead to Conquest as soon as your Odyle Energy is close to full.
After that, work through your daily and weekly activities: what to do and when.
- Specialties aren't in slotsYou're missing their bonuses. Check the Skills window.
- “The macro doesn't work”The macro key isn't bound.
- A quest helmet enhanced to +10You'll replace it in a couple of hours.
- Dismantled a yellow itemExclude unique items from auto-dismantle.
- Wings still in your bagEquip them in the Wings window.
- Feathers on every characterOne character is enough; use “Sync Empyrean Traces” on the others.
The key points
Before you start, bind your macro, Sprint, and flight controls. Put skill specialties into slots manually, and keep macros clean without a basic attack at the end of a row. Don't enhance quest gear or dismantle yellow gear; upgrade your belt and amulet freely because you'll keep them. Let one character collect the feathers. At level 45, set up a proper macro, finish the story, and keep your energy from sitting at the cap.
