What the Abyss is

The Abyss is an open PvPvE zone where Elyos and Asmodians fight over artifacts and Abyss Points
The Abyss is an open PvPvE zone where Elyos and Asmodians fight over artifacts and Abyss Points

The Abyss is Reshanta, the zone shared by Elyos and Asmodians. You farm monsters and fight the other faction at the same time. Stats are not equalised: the side with better gear and a group wins.

The Abyss currency is Abyss Points. They buy PvP gear, stigma shards, Asphel Daevanion crystals and devotion runes. Even if you do not like PvP, skipping the Abyss slows your character down a lot.

The Abyss has three layers:

LayerFeatureFaction settlements
Chaotic Lower ReshantaFloating islands, aerial combatLatesran Eastern Root and Latesran Western Root
Chaotic Middle ReshantaNo flying, ground combatLatesran Eastern Ridge and Latesran Western Ridge
Chaotic Upper ReshantaFortresses and fortress ruinsKrotan Fortress and Dukysas Fortress

The map shows settlements, teleport artifacts, dungeon entrances, elite and heroic monsters.

How to get into the Abyss

The road to the Abyss

  1. Level 45Level through the main story — it leads to the Abyss.
  2. DraupnirClear the Draupnir expedition. After it the story quest opens the way to the Abyss.
  3. Gear scoreEntry needs a minimum gear score. If you are short, the quest description tells you.
  4. EntryOpen the game menu and pick the Abyss — you appear in your faction's settlement.

If your gear score is too low

Do not stand still — solo content is enough for a start:

  • sealed dungeons and strongholds in rifts on enemy territory: each clear gives gear, Daevanion points and Abyss Points;
  • green quests you skipped while levelling;
  • daily duties from the journal: you can reroll their rewards for Kinah;
  • gear upgrades — see How to upgrade gear.
Abyss time is limitedTime in the Abyss uses a weekly allowance: in Taiwan it was about 8 hours a week. Killing monsters extends the timer. Finish your daily routine first and go to the Abyss with a goal.

There are many sources, and some do not need PvP at all.

Supply requests are safe pointsDo not sell or salvage unneeded items before you check supply requests. Many of them turn into Abyss Points with no PvP risk.

The Abyss Corridor

The richest source. The faction that lands the last hit on an artifact captures it. While the artifact is yours, its corridor is open: a short separate zone where no one disturbs you. In 5 minutes you can earn 10 to 30 thousand Abyss Points — it depends on how fast you kill.

  • Ranged — stand in the middle and hit everything with area skills.
  • Melee — run in a circle: while you go round the room, the monsters at the entrance respawn.
Ambush at the entranceThe enemy knows where the corridor is and often waits at the entrance. If you see enemies, wait for your group.

Artifact sieges and ranking

Artifact siege: both factions fight over the core, the last hit wins
Artifact siege: both factions fight over the core, the last hit wins

The Abyss map has three artifact points. At set times a core appears on them and both factions fight for it. The last hit decides who captures the artifact, and rewards depend on contribution: more damage, more reward. Your opponent server is matched by faction strength, and server pairs can change.

The Abyss also has scheduled bosses — their spawn time is on the map. You cannot kill them alone, bring a group.

Abyss Points and ranking points are different things. Abyss Points are a currency you spend. Ranking points decide your rank: soldier, officer with stars, general and above. Dying to a player only costs ranking points, and only a little — monsters quickly give them back.

Your rank decides which Medals of Merit you can buy for higher tiers of PvP gear:

MedalWho can buy
Silver Medal of MeritSoldiers and above
Gold Medal of MeritOfficers from 1 star
Platinum Medal of MeritGenerals and above

The ranking point threshold grows with the strength of players on your server. At the Global launch only silver medals are available.

What to buy in the Abyss shop

The Abyss shop: stigmas, PvP gear, runes and Asphel crystals
The Abyss shop: stigmas, PvP gear, runes and Asphel crystals

What to buy, in order

  1. Stigma shardsStigmas strengthen skills and unlock their traits — power in both PvE and PvP.
  2. Weapon or accessoriesAttack first. Tanks and healers — defence.
  3. Devotion runesPvP stats. Two runes are enough; do not over-enchant: a failed attempt breaks the rune.
  4. Asphel Daevanion crystalsNodes of the PvP board. The limit never resets and the price rises in steps.

Step prices are in the shop table of the Character progression guide. For example, 200 stigma shards cost 10,000 to 25,000 Abyss Points per step, Asphel crystals 10,000 to 80,000.

Another must-have for PvP is the Fierce Battle Amulet: it gives PvP damage, perfect strike and penetration. Put it on before you enter the Abyss.

  1. Buying mid-tier gearDo not spend Abyss Points on mid-tier armour if you can soon afford the next tier.
  2. Forgetting stigmasUntil your stigmas are levelled, armour gives less than it seems.
  3. Enchanting devotion runes to the maxThey break on failure. Two runes at +3–4 last a long time.

Tips for your first trips

  • In the graphics settings show Abyss players as rank icons: less clutter and higher FPS
  • Bind a separate key to targeting hostile players: it is the most important command in the Abyss
  • Go with a group or a legion: Abyss monsters are tough and lone players die fast
  • Farm in quiet hours and come for sieges when your faction gathers
  • Stay near the edges of the map and do not chase an enemy deep alone
  • On the lower layer touch floating objects — they refill your flight gauge
  • Set buff scrolls to auto-use in combat only, so you do not waste them
  • Leave in time: if a large enemy group flies at you, retreating beats losing time

The bottom line

The Abyss opens at level 45 after the Draupnir expedition, if your gear score is high enough. Abyss Points come from daily duties, command scrolls, supply requests, monsters, corridors and PvP. Dying does not cost Abyss Points. Spend them on stigma shards and accessories first, go with a group and watch the artifact siege schedule.
